Dragons Continue to Impress at Wolverine Classic

Newark, NJ - One week after finishing runner-up in the Region 20 Championships, the Howard Community College Dragons track & field team competed in the Wolverine Classic at Essex County Community College in Newark, New Jersey.

Highlights:

Track Events
  • Divine Rice (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) took gold in the men's 200m, continuing a fantastic season. Rice won his heat with a time of 22.29 to clinch the victory, while Aiden Moore (Beltsville, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) made it to the podium with a 22.59. Rojae Campbell finished fifth overall with a time of 22.92, while Matthew Calinda (Hanover, MD/Meade) cracked the top ten with a 23.24.
  • Larry Brent (Columbia, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) took gold in the men's 110m hurdles, finishing with a time of 16.73.
  • The Dragons took silver in the men's 4x100m relay, as Rojae Campbell, Aiden Moore (Beltsville, MD/St. Vincent Palotti), Nazeer England (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake), and Divine Rice (Columbia, MD/Long Reach) combined to set a time of 42.05.
  • Mife Osinubi cam home second in the men's 400m with a time of 51.57. Evan Taylor (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) finished sixth with a 52.09, while Anthony Robinson (Greenbelt, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) went seventh overall with a 52.39. Jayden Gallion (Glendale, MD/CMIT Academy) finished eighth with a time of 53.04, ensuring that the Dragons would all make the top ten in the event.
  • Nazeer England (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) finished third in the prelims for the men's 100m with a time of 11.28 seconds. In the main event, England finished fifth overall with a time of 11.52.
  • Samone Haywood (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finished fifth overall in the women's 200m, setting a time of 29.27.
Field Events
  • Pedro Egudu (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) just missed out on the gold in the men's long jump, finishing second with a best jump of 6.50m. Teh Wessah placed sixth overall with a 6.09m jump.
  • The Dragons had an excellent day in the men's high jump, with Pedro Egudu (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) finishing third overall and Emmanuel Addo (Columbia, MD/Hammond) finishing fourth overall. Egudu's best jump was a 1.82m jump, while Addo hit 1.72m on his highest jump.
  • Cheyenne Ellis (Eldersburg, MD/Century) continued to impress, finishing fourth overall in the women's shot put. Ellis had a best distance of 10.04m.
  • Chukwueloka Okafor (Burtonsville, MD/Paint Branch) finished 16th overall in the men's shot put with a distance of 8.94m.
