Box Score North East, MD - The Howard Community College men's soccer team delivered a commanding performance on Monday afternoon, shutting out Cecil College in a decisive 3-0 victory.
From the opening whistle, HCC's intensity was undeniable. They wasted no time putting pressure on Cecil's backline, and in just the 6th minute, sophomore
Donnie Frayer (Odenton, MD/Annapolis Area Christian) scored. Frayer coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Cecil tried to rally, finding moments of possession and building through their midfield, but HCC's defense held firm. The Dragons only allowed one shot on goal, compared to their 14 attempts.
Denny Mora (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) extended the lead with a goal in the 23rd minute. At halftime Howard Community College was in control with 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Cecil made an effort to get back into the game, but HCC upheld their stifling defense. In the 83rd minute,
Denny Mora (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern) joined the party again and scored his 11th goal of the season, resulting in a 3-0 victory.
The win moves Howard Community College to a strong position in the Maryland JUCO standings, as they have clinched a top-three seed in the Region 20 playoffs. Their next matchup will take place at home, on Tuesday October 2nd at 2:00 PM against Division I powerhouse Montgomery College.
