Columbia, MD – An incredible first season for the Howard Community College Overwatch team came to an end as the #4 seed Dragons fell to the Northern Essex Community College Knights 3-0 in the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference tournament.
In the opening map of escort the payload, the Dragons struggled at first in their attacking opener as it took three waves of attacks to finally take the first point. The initial struggles continued as Howard CC was unable to break through the stout Knights defense and were forced to settle with just the lone point. The sides switched and Northern Essex rolled right through the Dragons to take the first game.
Game two went to a control point map with Northern Essex taking the first point right off the bat. The Dragons made a great dive to take the point away, but the Knights came right back to take it away and held it all the way to 99% before Howard took it back just in time to stay alive. The Dragons were unable to hold the point all the way, losing it with themselves also at 99% and the Knights took the first point. A similarly story for point two as Northern Essex won the initial battle to take the point, but Howard fought back to capture it and take the point all the way to 82% before the Knights stormed the castle to take it back, but a huge counter by Howard finished the objective to take the second point. Despite the great comeback attempt from the Dragons, the third point was taken early by Northern Essex and never relinquished as they took the 2-0 game advantage.
Needing a win in the final map, the Dragons labored through the first point on the attack and were able to get just one of the three available points. The Knights jumped all over Howard CC as they flipped roles as the Dragons season came to an end.
