Columbia, MD - In the closest match the team has seen all year, the Howard CC Overwatch team were unable to pull out an upset over the University of North Alabama Lions in a 2-1 defeat.
Up against yet another NCAA D1 opponent, the Dragons struggled early as they gave up the control point first and were unable to break through a strong defensive wall. The Dragons were able to take the point first on a great rush, but were bullied out just before getting the point win. But the Dragons fought right back and took control again to cash in on the point. The third point was a dramatic back and forth battle that saw Howard make a huge team knock out to close out the point and the first map win.
On the second map, the Dragons took the defensive side first and despite some good moments, were ultimately rolled over to give up all three points. Changing side to attack, Howard CC were initially held for a long period but persevered at the end to grab all three points as well. However, the time it took them to get the third point made it nearly impossible to win in overtime as the Lions were able to prevail.
In the deciding third set, Howard CC faced a staunch North Alabama defense and were able to grab just two of the three points on attack. Switching sides and needing a hold to win, the Dragons nearly pulled off the unlikely victory, but a last second surge in extra time allowed the Lions to pull out the 2-1 win.
The Dragons will face another Alabama opponent next as they are set to take on the University of Alabama Huntsville on Thursday, March 4.
