Esports Weekly Round-Up: Week 3

Columbia, MD – With Rocket League returning to the electronic pitch once again, the goals just keep coming as both teams remain undefeated in each of the three conferences, they compete in.

Monday night saw some major action on the pitch as Rocket League team 1 returned to win their match in the National Junior College Athletics Association Esports (NJCAAE).  Team 1 took to the field as all three players, Akaash Patel (/), Logan Ghandi (Columbia, MD/Atholton) and Ryan McCardle (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) each collected hat tricks against Union County College.  The Dragons were able to come up with the win at 3-0.  On Tuesday, both teams kicked off week 3 of the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC).  Team 2 took on the competition of Bryant University where Joshua Leiva scored the overtime goal to win game 1, leading the Dragons to win the match 3-0.  Continuing their success in the NECC, Team 1 took on Lebanon Valley College where they secured a 3-1 win in a tough fought match.  Wednesday night started week 2 of the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference (MAEC) action as both teams again remain undefeated in their seasons.  Team 1 saw the matchup of Old Dominion University – Monarch team, going 3-1 in their matchup.  Team 2 took on Virginia Commonwealth University where Aaron Saudager () saw his first collegiate goal and captured the overtime goal to give the Dragons a 3-0 win.

Wednesday brought us more Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SSBU) action as all three players were able to secure a win.  Wyatt Cioffi continued his undefeated streak and went 3-0 over the Danville Area Community College Jaguars.  Also continuing his undefeated streak, Richard Machado gained a 3-1 win over Roughrider eSports.  Tyrone Boyd returned to gain the 3-0 victory over Alexandria Technical and Community College.  Dragons SSBU will return to the arenas next Wednesday, with Cioffi having a bye week and a break from the competition.

Thursday was the return of Overwatch in the NECC where the Dragons were not up for the challenge. University of Southern Mississippi came out strong and were able to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Dragon team causing them to fall 0-3 on the NECC season.  On Saturday afternoon, the Overwatch team saw their first regular season action in the MAEC.  In a quick 16-minute match, the Dragons fell to George Mason University.  They will return to the action next Thursday when they take on their highly anticipated against Purdue University in the NECC.

Saturday evening brought on the return visit to Summoner's Rift for Team 2 of the League of Legends team where they went up against Eastern Kentucky University.  The first game, the Dragons came out strong looking like they had the right pace to take the win.  Unfortunately, the strength of the Colonels proved too much for the Dragons and they lost both games bringing their NECC season to 1-2.  Team 1 had their match for week 3 scheduled for a later date.

Dragons Esports will return starting on Monday with Rocket League looking to continue their undefeated streak in the NJCAAE.
