Dragons' Softball Finishes as Top Fundraising JUCO in Strikeout Cancer Initiative

Columbia, MD - For the fifth straight year, the Howard Community College Dragons' softball team was the highest fundraiser amongst junior colleges in the NFCA Strikeout Cancer initiative.

The Dragons held their annual Strikeout Cancer Game last April 11, defeating the Harford Community College Fighting Owls 17-9 and 13-12 in a doubleheader. HCC raised over $13,000 to the Strikeout Cancer Foundation, with $500 donated per strikeout.

The proceeds from the event went to Isaiah Dal Molin, whose mother, Angela Rose, passed away from stage four breast cancer. Since the inception of the Strikeout Cancer Game, the Dragons have raised over $100,000 and have topped the list of junior colleges participating in the initiative every year of the program's history.

As winners of the fundraising initiative, the Dragons will receive Louisville Slugger bats specially colored to match their cancer fundraiser. The bats are provided by NFCA sponsor Wilson Sporting Goods.

This season's Strikeout Cancer Games are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 17 against Chesapeake College. HCC begins their 2027 season on Friday, February 26 against Pellissippi State at 1:00 PM in Columbus, Georgia.
