Columbia, MD - Howard Community College's softball team completed a historic season in 2026, finishing the regular season as the number four seed and hosting their first playoff series. Off the field, the Dragons were just as impressive as they led the way for HCC's athletics teams with their academic achievements.
Softball finished their season with a 3.08 GPA, highest among all HCC teams. 13 Dragons made the AD Honor Roll, five Dragons were named NJCAA All-Academic team members, and four Dragons graduated at season's end.
Six Dragons made Honor Roll in the fall semester, while seven made Honor Roll in the spring.
Madison Hamolia,
Gianna Peluso,
Marissa Webb,
Taylor Pence, and
Sophia Steele made honor roll in both semesters, while
Victoria Wright made fall honor roll and
Jensyn Koonce and
Layla Walker made spring honor roll. Pence, Peluso, and Steele all finished with 4.00 GPAs in the fall.
Along with making honor roll both semesters, Pence, Peluso, and Steele were named to the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team. Walker and Webb made All-Academic Third Team. The five total All-Academic team members were the most for any sport.
Pence, Steele, Wright, and Webb would end their seasons as HCC graduates, capping off a historic year for HCC. The Dragons now look ahead to next season and their goal of advancing out of the first round of the playoffs.
