Columbia, MD - For the first time in program history, the Howard Community College Dragons have had two softball student-athletes named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NJCAA Division II All-Region teams.
The NFCA named sophomore
Marissa Webb and freshman
Gianna Peluso to the Division II All-Region teams following excellent seasons. Both players wre named to the East Region Team.
Webb finished her sophomore season as the Dragons go-to power hitter, finishing with a batting average of .477, 61 total hits, 16 extra-base hits, 16 home runs, and 40 RBIs. She doubled as the Dragons ace on the mound, leading the team with a 4.83 ERA and 91 total strikeouts in a 10-8 season. She was named to the All-Region first team and leaves HCC as the all-time program leader in home runs.
Peluso led the Dragons in batting average with a .485 and was named to the All-Region Second Team. She finished her freshman year with 66 total hits, 21 extra-base hits, eleven home runs, and 45 RBIs. Peluso will forgo her sophomore season to transfer to four-year Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.
The individual success of both players highlights to continuing growth of the Howard Community College softball program, which in just its fifth season finished with a winning record for the first time, set new program records for wins, and hosted its first home playoff games.
